What We Do: Every year, the struggling digital music economy forces talented songwriters to succumb to the financial pressure to find more lucrative jobs. We all know what a gift great songwriting is to the culture at large, but many do not know how hard it is to make a living writing in the age of streaming. Launched in 2015, the NMPA S.O.N.G.S. Foundation promotes the creation of music though the funding of gifted songwriters, and programs that foster composition education. The Foundation’s goal is to find talented writers, and to award a winner with a grant to ensure they can continue their creativity.
The Foundation hopes to enable young writers to hone their craft and pursue their passion. In addition to encouraging talented individuals who aim to write music, the Foundation also supports educational programs that enhance the lives of our youth and deepen their understanding of the cultural significance of songwriting.
The art of composition not only enriches the life of the creator of the work, it also benefits the general public. Unfortunately, while songwriting is one of the essential arts of our society, today it is increasingly challenging to become a successful, professional songwriter. NMPA S.O.N.G.S. hopes to change that fact, through financial support, advocacy and education.
How it Works: NMPA SONGS aims to award young people who produce excellent musical work; and to improve songwriting and composition education. The Foundation hopes to award grants and/or scholarships to individuals who are pursuing careers in musical composition.
Recipients of these awards will be determined by the NMPA SONGS Foundation Board of Directors, and announced annually at event to raise money for the Foundation.
Supporting Education: The NMPA S.O.N.G.S. Foundation may contribute to outstanding musical education programs by donating financial and other in-kind support to enhance courses and benefit promising students. Programs will be chosen by the NMPA S.O.N.G.S. Foundation Board.
