Charlotte Sellmyer

Charlotte Sellmyer serves as Senior Vice President, External Affairs. She oversees all of NMPA’s public affairs, communications, events, songwriter engagement and advocacy and web presence in addition to the NMPA Gold & Platinum Program.

Charlotte was a leader in the communications campaign to pass the Music Modernization Act (MMA), the most significant update to music copyright law in generations, and to establish the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC), a new licensing company which ensures songwriters receive proper digital streaming royalties. She helped create and serves on the board of the NMPA SONGS (Supporting Our Next Generation of Songwriters) Foundation which provides scholarships and services to creators.

Prior to joining NMPA, Charlotte worked on Capitol Hill. She served as communications director for the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security which oversees policy relating to counterterrorism and foreign affairs. She previously served as press secretary to the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary handling intellectual property, copyright, antitrust, national security and criminal law. Charlotte has worked in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Public Affairs as well as a political media campaign consulting firm in Dallas. She is a freelance photographer whose work has been featured in the New York Times and Politico, among other publications.

Charlotte is a member of the Recording Academy (GRAMMYS) and the Country Music Association (CMAs) as well as a 2022 graduate of Leadership Music. She is a Billboard Women in Music Top Executive and is a 2019 Texas A&M 12 Under 12 honoree.
