Charlotte Sellmyer serves as Senior Vice President, External Affairs. Ms. Sellmyer previously served as Vice President of Communications.
Charlotte oversees all of NMPA’s communications, public affairs, events, songwriter engagement and advocacy and web presence in addition to the NMPA Gold & Platinum Program which awards the writers of RIAA-certified hits as well as the NMPA SONGS (Supporting Our Next Generation of Songwriters) Foundation.
Prior to joining NMPA in 2014, Charlotte worked on Capitol Hill. Most recently, she served as communications director for the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security, chaired by Michael McCaul, which oversees policy relating to counter-terrorism and foreign affairs. She previously served as press secretary to the U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary under Chairman Lamar Smith handling intellectual property, criminal law, national security and constitutional issues. There, she was instrumental in the successful passage of the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act, the most significant update to U.S. patent law in over 60 years.
Charlotte has worked in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Public Affairs as well as a political media campaign consulting firm in Dallas. She is a freelance photographer whose work has been featured in the New York Times and Politico, among other publications. She is a graduate of Texas A&M University.
