NMPA + Billboard GRAMMY Week Showcase Honors Year’s Biggest Singer-Songwriters

LOS ANGELES – Last night, the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) and Billboard hosted their GRAMMY Week Songwriter Showcase at Hyde, Sunset. For the first time, Billboard co-hosted the event and presented its inaugural songwriter awards as a result of its recently launched songwriter charts. The songwriters were also given their Gold & Platinum honors for writing certified hits. In addition to the honorees, Billie Eilish, Emily Warren and Scott Harris were also in attendance.

Billboard Editorial Director Hannah Karp handed out their top awards of the night with Finneas receiving the Billboard 2019 Songwriter of the Year. Lewis Capaldi received Billboard’s 2019 Breakthrough Songwriter award. Tayla Parx received Billboard’s 2019 Hitmaker Award and Victoria Monet received Billboard’s 2019 Rising Star Songwriter award.

To honor the legacy of a longtime music industry attorney and songwriter advocate who passed away last year, the Jay Rosenthal Advocacy Award was presented by Billboard to Meghan Trainor for her efforts to help the next generation of songwriters.

In addition to the Billboard awards, Gold & Platinum plaques were presented. Meghan was honored for twelve songwriting certifications including All About That Bass, Me Too, No, and Lips Are Movin’; Finneas was awarded for his astounding seventeen certifications earned for his songwriting on Billie Eilish’s latest albums; Lewis Capaldi was given a plaque for his Platinum certified single Someone You Loved; Tayla Parx was awarded for four certifications for her songwriting on singles including Thank U, Next performed by Ariana Grande, Love Lies performed by Khalid and Normani, and High Hopes performed by Panic! At The Disco; and Victoria Monét was honored with two songwriting certifications including one for Ariana Grande’s single Thank U, Next.
