Songs Music Publishing CEO Matt Pincus Appointed to NMPA Board

WASHINGTON—Songs Music Publishing founder and CEO Matt Pincus has been appointed to the National Music Publishers’ Association’s (NMPA) Board of Directors, the association announced today.

“The board is pleased to welcome another energetic rising star from the independent publishing community,” said Chairman Irwin Robinson. “Matt Pincus is a valuable addition to the board table and we are grateful for his willingness to serve.”

“Matt joins a board team with experience, vision and commitment to the industry,” said NMPA President and CEO David Israelite. “The board’s leadership and support of the association’s work is fundamental to our ability to accomplish good things on behalf of the music publishing and songwriting community. I am grateful to all of them for their generosity of time, guidance and friendship.”

Pincus started Songs Music Publishing in 2004 after serving as a Strategy Associate at EMI Group. Under Pincus’s leadership, Songs has grown from its inception in 2004 to represent over 250 songwriters in all genres. The company is one of the fastest growing independent publishers in the country, with an industry-leading young and experienced team of 20 across offices in New York, Los Angeles, and London.

The company’s writers include Matt Thiessen (Relient K, Owl City), Q-Tip, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk), Jose Gonzalez, Greg Garbowsky (Jonas Brothers), Andrew McMahon (Jack’s Mannequin, Something Corporate), and Drake Bell (Star of Nickelodeon TV’s Drake & Josh).  Songs also publishes and administers a 50 percent share of the Pharrell Williams  catalog, which contains the global hits “Hollaback Girl” (Gwen Stefani), “Rock Your  Body” (Justin Timberlake), “Milkshake” (Kelis), “Hot in Herre” (Nelly) and others.

Pincus is a Columbia Business School graduate and a member of the Board of Review of ASCAP.
