FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / February 10, 2012

Statement from David Israelite, NMPA President and CEO on IIPA's Release of "Copyright Industries' Initiatives and Challenges"

“Global piracy impacts America's songwriters and music publishers every day. While some dismiss the damage done, lost sales of hit songs and lost opportunities for cultivating young talent are just a few of the real implications brought by copyright infringement worldwide.

Today's report from the International Intellectual Property Alliance should be applauded for its assessment of unfriendly copyright countries and recommendations for strengthening job and economic growth supported by our nation's creative community.'

Background

The International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) today release a new report, 'Copyright Industries' Initiatives and Challenges for 2012' which documents global copyright piracy and market access barriers.  Related, today IIPA submitted recommendations to the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) in its annual 'Special 301' review calling for 32 countries/territories to be placed on the USTR 'watch list.'
