WASHINGTON— Today, the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) named veteran music and entertainment executive David Renzer to the organization’s Board effective immediately. Renzer is the chairman of Spirit Music Group (Spirit).

“David has been in the publishing business for over a quarter of a century, and was at the forefront of shepherding our industry through the transition to the digital age,” said Irwin Z. Robinson, chairman of the NMPA Board.

Prior to joining Sprit, Renzer served as chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) where he sponsored an initiative making the company the first major publisher to offer clients access to royalty accounts online via the groundbreaking royalty administration tool, RoyaltyWindow.com. Additionally, under Renzer’s tenure, UMPG grew exponentially, becoming the global leader in Production Music, Christian and Classical Music. Major signings include the catalogues of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Justin Timberlake, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, U2, and Mary J. Blige. He began his career at Zomba Music Publishing.

“The strength of our organization comes from the commitment of Board members to the songwriting and publishing community,” said NMPA president and CEO David Israelite. “David’s leadership and experience is a tremendous asset to our organization.”

Added Renzer, “It’s an honor to be serving on the board of the NMPA, which under the leadership of David Israelite continues to be at the vanguard of dealing with the various challenges and opportunities facing our industry.”

In addition to his work with the NMPA, Renzer’s civic commitments include participation on the Boards of Creative Community for Peace and the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding. He has also served as the chairman of the Music and Entertainment Division of Los-Angeles based City of Hope, and founded Songs of Hope, raising over $1,750,000 for the City of Hope Hospital.
