NMPA Honors Steven Tyler, Senator Chuck Grassley at March 25 American Songwriter Event

WASHINGTON DC - The National Music Publishers' Association and the Church Music Publishers will honor GRAMMY winning rock star and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Steven Tyler as well as Senator Chuck Grassley tonight at a Washington, D.C. "Celebration of the American Songwriter."
"This event is an opportunity to highlight the important role songwriters and their publishing partners play, and to discuss the very real issues affecting this community," said NMPA president and CEO David Israelite. "Steven Tyler is a legendary performer, a prolific songwriter, and passionate advocate. He knows the challenges facing songwriters today, just as Senator Grassley understands the legislative issues we face. It's an exciting honor to have them both be a part of tonight's event."
Tyler says, "I am so honored to be receiving the "American Songwriter" award from The National Music Publishers' Association and the Church Music Publishers. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be in DC tonight and perform at this incredible event."
Senator Grassley will receive the inaugural Congressional Leadership Award for his legislative work and long-time Senate leadership on a rage of issues important to songwriters. After receiving the "American Songwriter" award, Tyler will perform for event attendees. Tyler recently made headlines for his advocacy efforts in opposition to a compulsory license for remixes, mash-ups and derivatives. Tyler submitted a comment paper to the Department of Commerce with his attorney Dina LaPolt and letters of support from artists including Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Dr. Dre, Sting, deadmau5, Ozzy Osbourne and Britney Spears.
