NMPA President and CEO David Israelite on USTR Special 301 Report

April 30, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / April 30, 2012

“To strengthen the economy, we must strengthen the global enforcement of copyright. While songwriters and music publishers play an important economic role in states across the country, they, along with others in the creative community, greatly impact our global economy. Today's release of the 'Special 301 Report' points to the value of this community and the Administration's priority to protect copyright-associated jobs and exports.    On behalf of the songwriting and music publishing community, I applaud Ron Kirk, U.S. Trade Representative, for again calling attention to this important issue.''

BACKGROUND:

Monday, the office of the U.S. Trade Representative released its annual Special 301 Report detailing the state of intellectual property rights and enforcement in trading partners around the word.
